‘EastEnders’ Dyer, Strike accept Media Recognition Award

EastEnders

won the Media Recognition award at the Attitude Awards on Monday night (October 13), following the soap’s critically-acclaimed coming-out storyline earlier this year (January).

Former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins was on hand to present the award to cast members Danny Dyer and Sam Strike, along with executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins. Michelle described the show’s plot as “one of the most perfectly perceived gay storylines ever portrayed on British television.”

Dyer spoke about the numerous letters he’d received from young men who had come out after the scenes were aired, saying: “We changed a few lives; that means the world.”

For the third consecutive year Virgin Holidays were headline sponsors of the Attitude Awards, which also benefited the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
