American Idol star Crystal Bowersox confirms bisexuality

star Crystal Bowersox has confirmed that she is bisexual.

The singer – who finished as runner-up on the 2010 series of Idol – spoke about her sexuality during an appearance on US morning show Good Day L.A.

Promoting her festive track Coming Out For Christmas, Bowersox said: “I have been bisexual as long as I can remember.”

The 28-year-old quipped on Twitter: “Let me set the record straight. I’m Bi. Pun intended.”

She later elaborated in a statement: “The holidays are here, and it pains me to think that anyone would be left alone or be forbidden to be with their family over something as silly as their sexual orientation.

“I hope [this song] will serve as a holiday anthem for people who may finally have the courage to live their life as their true authentic self, proudly and unapologetically, and that their friends and family will love and accept them with loving open arms.”

Following her appearance on American Idol, Bowersox married fellow singer Brian Walker, but the couple divorced earlier this year. She has a four-year-old son from a previous relationship.
