Australian actor Harry Cook has come out as gay in a new YouTube video.
The star uploaded the video on Sunday (December 8), just six days after Tom Daley spoke about his sexuality in a similar clip.
“I’ve been thinking of doing this video now for a while,” he explained, admitting that he had changed his mind several times before finally deciding to upload the video.
“Life’s too short to be anything but yourself. So on that note,” he continued before taking a long pause. “I’m gay.”
Harry explained that he had been worried about the effect coming out would have on his career. He admitted that the industry can be “closed-minded” about gay actors taking on straight acting roles.
However, the 22-year-old added that the “relief” of speaking about his sexuality outweighed any of his concerns.
“Then I started thinking of all the good things that could come out of coming out and one of them was just the relief I’m getting right now. It’s such a relief knowing that I won’t have to put up a mask every time I leave the house, or bump into somebody, or go to an event or do an interview.”
“I’ve got so much to be happy for. I’m madly in love, I’ve got an amazing family, a good career and I’m happy,” he said.
Harry was born in London and moved to Sydney with his family at the age of ten. His acting credits include Panic at Rock Island, Accidents Happen and Caught Inside.
Well done, Harry!
