Britney Spears on her gay fans: ‘They’re somewhat girls’

By Nick Levine

Britney Spears has spoken about the “inspiration” we, her gay fans, give her.

However, the Work Bitch singer described us as “somewhat girls” in a new interview with Pride Source.

We think she kind of meant it as a compliment, though…

Meanwhile, Britney was shocked to discover that she caused offence to some when she described the gays as “adorable and hilarious” on her recent UK press trip.

“Wait, what? Who felt the other way?” she asked with concern. “I would never say anything to be mean to them. I love my gay fans. Gay people are always usually my best friends in the whole world. I completely adore them.”

Asked if her gay fans inspire her music, she replied: “I get inspiration from them on almost all of my songs. They’re somewhat girls, so it’s so inspiring to do stuff that they like to hear, like the cool ‘in’ stuff. Whatever I do for each record is definitely inspired by them.”

But she doesn’t see herself as a gay icon…

“I don’t know about that,” Britney said. “But I know I do have gay fans.”

She explained that it was on her 2000 Oops! tour that she first noticed that she had a gay following.

“I really started noticing more coming to the shows,” Spears recalled. “People were emulating my clothes and wearing the same outfits, and it was just really fun.”

Britney’s new album Britney Jean is out now. Watch the music video for Work Bitch below:
