Tom Daley speaks about sexuality: ‘I am dating a guy’

has revealed that he is in a relationship with a man in a new YouTube video.

The 19-year-old bravely spoke about his sexuality in the self-recorded clip, which he uploaded earlier today (December 2).

Tom explained that he “couldn’t be happier” being in a gay relationship, but added that he is still attracted to girls.

He met his boyfriend in spring this year, and admits that his life has “changed massively” since he entered into the new relationship.

Speaking about his new love, Tom said: “They make me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. [And] that someone is a guy.”

The diving star – who was named Attitude‘s Sexiest Man of 2013 earlier this year – said that his feelings took him by surprise.

“It did take me by surprise a little bit. It was always in the back of my head that something like that could happen, but it wasn’t until spring this year that something just clicked. It felt right,” he explained.

Tom also spoke about his decision to make his announcement via YouTube, admitting that he was upset recently after being misquoted in the press.

“I didn’t want to get my words twisted,” he said. “I wanted to put an end to all the rumours, the speculation [and] just say it.”

Tom said that his family had “mixed opinions” when he told them the news recently.

He added that his late father, Robert Daley, would have supported him in his decision. “He always said to me, ‘As long as you’re happy, I’m happy’.”

Speaking about your sexuality can be a very daunting prospect, especially when you’re a public figure. Everyone at Attitude is really happy for Tom and we know that he will inspire a lot of people to have the confidence to talk about their own sexuality.
