The star of the upcoming series Bad Education, Layton Williams, has teased that the new series will feature a “queer icon guest star”.

Before collecting the Culture Award at the 2022 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar, on Wednesday (12 October) Layton spoke exclusively to Attitude on the red carpet.

Asked what fans can expect from the returning series Layton said: “Let’s just say, it’s gonna be very camp because I am leading the company, which I’m really proud of.

“As a queer person leading their TV show that has already been established, we’re doing something fab, we’re switching it up for a new audience and our old fans as well.”

He also said that there will definitely be a lot of fun before hinting at a special surprise in store.

“I would say one of our queer icon guest stars, and I’m not allowed to say who but you know, we’ve got some tricks up our sleeve. So, I think you’re going to enjoy it.”

Can he give us any more hints as to who that might be? “Absolutely not!”

Speaking to Attitude for the Awards issueout now – Layton told us of his character Stephen in the revival: “He’s back at the school teaching. And he’s not a very good teacher, I’m not going to lie! I think I only teach one class the whole season… I’m literally running around causing havoc!”

Bad Education ran for three seasons from 2012-2014 starring comedian Jack Whitehall in the lead role. This new series will see Layton Williams, who starred in the original as student Stephen, return as a teacher.

The series will return with a 45-minute Christmas special before a six-episode fourth season in 2023.
