It’s been a long time coming but finally Billy Eichner has returned to Billy on the Street.

The 44-year-old comedian-turned-actor returned to the streets of New York City with a microphone in hand to ask the people of the Big Apple their thoughts on an assortment of topics.

“SURPRISE! The first BILLY ON THE STREET IN 3 YEARS drops TOMORROW!!!!!!” he tweeted the day before Billy on the Street made its comeback.

Eichner returned to the streets of NYC with Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd in tow, the pair wearing matching Bros t-shirts.

Bros is Eichner’s gay rom-com which he co-wrote and stars in and co-wrote and the pair ran around with the mission to get straight people to go to the cinema and watch Bros.

In the Twitter clip Eichner shared of the Billy on the Street episode, Rudd can be seen physically picking up a man to take him to the cinema while Eichner is screaming “I’m sorry I’m not Florence Pugh!”

Later, Eichner is joined by a “pack of wild lesbians” – a joke from the original Billy on the Street series that sees Eichner chant “Let’s go lesbians!” as they follow in pursuit.

Eichner stepped away from Billy on the Street after the show’s five-season run with the pandemic making the show’s format virtually impossible paired with his desire to venture into other creative endeavours.

Eichner’s Bros sees him opposite Luke Macfarlane playing a couple who are trying to navigate their relationship amid obstacles knocking them off course.

Speaking to Attitude back in May, Eichner spoke to the fact it is only now we’re getting a studio-produced gay rom-com: “I’m surprised but I’m not surprised because Hollywood has often been such a hypocritical and LGBTQ phobic place. But I’m happy that we’re here now.”

“And it is a really big sign of progress that the same studio releasing Jurassic World and the Fast and the Furious movies and all these huge global franchises are releasing this very R-rated gay rom-com with as much enthusiasm and passion as they released those movies. That’s a really big step.”

Bros comes out in the US on 30 September and in UK cinemas 28 October.

The Attitude September/October issue is out now.
