Cher admits she ‘had no intention of doing a Christmas album’
Christmas has been teased as "an incredible Christmas album that will rival and sit alongside the great Christmas albums of all time."
Forget Santa Claus, Cher is coming to town this Christmas! The legend is releasing her first-ever Christmas album, something she’s recently admitted she “had no intention of doing.”
The ‘Believe’ singer will release the appropriately titled Christmas on 20 October. As well as covers of songs like ‘Santa Baby’ and ‘Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)’, the album will also feature four original songs. One of those, ‘DJ Play a Christmas Song’ was shared on Friday (6 October) as the first single.
Speaking to Billboard recently, Cher told the outlet, “I had no intention of doing a Christmas album.”
But she said it was pitched to her by Warner Records who she told: “If I can do my version I’ll do it.” Apparently, Warner were, “very pleasant,” she went on to say.
Touching on the choice of songs, Cher said “They’re not ‘Christmas Christmas’ songs, OK, they’re just great songs. And I never say that because I almost never like what I do. But I mean people love it and I’m happy. I’m so particular, but I love the songs and everyone who hears them loves them.”
Joining Cher on the album are Stevie Wonder, Michael Bublé, Cyndi Lauper, Tyga, and Darlene Love.
Also speaking to Billboard, Warner Records’ co-chairman and COO, Tom Corson described the album as, “an incredible Christmas album that will rival and sit alongside the great Christmas albums of all time.”
In Attitude’s review of ‘DJ Play a Christmas Song,’ Jamie Tabberer wrote that it is, “a cut-glass powerhouse pop-dance banger that would work just as well in the height of summer at a beach party, or year-round at circuit parties.”
‘DJ Play a Christmas Song’ is out now. The album Christmas is out on 20 October.
