David Furnish on what he learned about Elton John through new doc Never Too Late: ‘It was very revealing and beautiful to me’
Exclusive: The husband of 'Rocketman' singer stepped out with Damian Hurley at the tonight's Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar
David Furnish has revealed that working on his husband Elton John’s documentary Never Too Late taught him new things about his husband.
The husband of Elton John was speaking on the red carpet of the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar, which he attended with Damien Hurley, the son of his close friend, Liz Hurley.
Never Too Late, from Disney+, premieres at the Royal Festival Hall in London tomorrow.
“When he was in his 20s, he wanted to have children” – David Furnish
“I learnt that, when he was in his 20s, he wanted to have children. Which, when I started dating him when he was in his 40s, he didn’t want to have children. So, the fact that he was able to do something he initially always wanted to do in his life, was very revealing to me, and very beautiful.”
Furnish also discussed the upcoming musical The Devil Wears Prada, on which he served as a producer. “I’ve been working on the show since its inception. We’re in rehearsals right now, loading into the Dominion Theatre.”
Adapted from the film and novel of the same name, the musical will feature new, original songs by Elton – who last night won the Legacy Award, supported by Virgin Atlantic.
“We have our gala premiere on 1 December for a World Aids Day benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” added David of the Vanessa Williams-starring show.
We also asked Damian and David for their camp icon of the year, with Damian saying “my mother” and David saying “my husband.” Asked for his favourite Elton song, David meanwhile said: ‘Someone Saved My Life Tonight’.
Busy bee Elton also has a limited edition jar of Marmite out to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation, plus a whisky, as part of Ballantine’s True Music Icons: Elton John and John Lennon limited-editions bottles.
