Drag Race UK’s Starlet was about to ‘completely break down’ after elimination
The South African drag queen says she had to get off camera immediately after being told to sashay away.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’s Starlet has ru-vealed why she left the show without a parting line.
The South African queen is the second queen from Drag Race UK to be eliminated. Speaking to Attitude and Tia Kofi for Tea Time, Starlet opened up about what was going on behind the scenes.
After landing in the bottom two following the girl group challenge Starlet faced off against Jonbers Blonde in the lip-sync and was told by Mama Ru to sashay away.
After being eliminated Starlet thanked RuPaul for “making my dream come true,” adding, “and now I need to go and find a new one”.
But rather than stop at the back of the runway, she kept going without a word.
Starlet explains, “I said my exit line at the front of the stage instead of at the back. And I just needed to get off camera immediately because I was about to completely break down.”
She also says she sat down just off camera and sobbed.
Starlet adds, “I’d waited so long for it to happen. This is my passion; it means so much to me and I didn’t want to go. I had a lot left to show.”
On RuPaul’s description of Starlet’s entrance look as “probably my favourite outfit ever to walk into that werk-room,” Starlet shares a few happy tears were shed.
Starlet also reveals she had Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean or Jim Carrey as Snatch Game ideas.
On her poised appearance on Drag Race UK Starlet says, “in drag in general, I am more poised and put together. Just because like, I’ve got all the makeup on, I’ve got face tapes and corset and heels.
“But out of drag, I’m insane. I’ve been told my whole life that I’m loud and annoying which is almost unbelievable based on what was shown on the show.”
Discussing why she might be holding back in drag, Starlet wonders if it’s partly to do with her accent, which she admits she feels self-conscious about.
“Some people love it, some don’t, they make fun of it. It’s just, it can be a very othering feeling just being the only one talking like this”.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK continues on BBC Three and Player every Thursday.
