5 things you need to know about Grace and Frankie

By Ben Kelly

Netflix’s latest comedy series Grace and Frankie looks set to fill that Kimmy Schmidt shaped hole in all our lives, when it premieres in full next month. Considering this is a comedy about two, rival mature women who are brought together when their husbands elope together, we have a sneaking suspicion it might be right up our street. Here’s five things we know about it so far.

1. It’s full of brilliant actors

The show stars a quartet of classic actors. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin play two arch nemeses who are forced together after their two husbands – played by Michael Sheen and Sam Waterston – declare that they are in love with each other. As far as kudos goes, the women themselves punch above their weight: Fonda has two Academy Awards, while Tomlin has a Grammy, two Tonys and multiple Emmys.

2. It comes from the creator of Friends

The show was created by Marta Kauffman, who co-created Friends in the 1990s. She also created Veronica’s Closet, which starred Kirsty Alley.

3. Fonda and Tomlin go way back

You might remember that Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin first got together in the 1980 film 9 To 5, alongside Dolly Parton. Tomlin has commented, “People say we have a lot of chemistry together. It’s because we’ve been friends for so many years. We’ve only done 9 to 5 together, but it seems like we’ve known each other always.”

4. There’s going to be some proper bitch-offs

5. Everyone’s getting all of it, all at once
