50 Cent has denied historic accusations of homophobia, saying people confused him for a “stereotype”.
The ‘In Da Club’ rapper infamously said he wasn’t “into f*****s’ in a 2004 Playboy interview, and last year was criticised for appearing to troll Lil Nas X online after the ‘Montero’ singer dragged up as Nicki Minaj for Halloween, writing: “What the f**k”.
However, in a new interview with The Independent, the 46-year-old – who has publicly backed marriage equality and supported Frank Ocean after he came out – says he’s been misunderstood.
“[My mom] had a girlfriend around”
“That stings,” the star said of the homophobia allegations, while pointing out his late mother was a lesbian. (His 2015 song ‘Hate It Or Love It’ contain the lyrics: “Coming up I was confused, my mommy kissing a girl/ Confusion occurs comin’ up in the cold world.”)
“[People] saw me being aggressive, they saw the stereotype,” 50 added.

The ‘Candyshop’ singer – who is a dad to 24-year-old Marquise and nine-year-old Sire [above] – then explains how his mother influenced an LGBTQ character in the TV show Power Book III: Raising Kanan, on which he is an executive producer.
“Cos of my mom […],” said the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ actor. “She was like that. She had a girlfriend around.
“These are things that feel like they’re going into the story organically, [so] it works.”
