5th Story: ‘We thought Adam Rickitt was gay’
By Nick Levine
star Kavana has discussed his decision to come out as gay.
The 36-year-old singer – who is part of the ITV2 show’s supergroup 5th Story – spoke candidly about his sexuality in a magazine interview last month (February), saying: “I’ve never come out publicly because no one’s ever asked! It’s become this huge elephant in the room.”
Speaking to Attitude at our 20th birthday party in central London last night (March 29), Kavana said that he is “relieved, just relieved” to have everything out in the open.
“I was kind of embarrassed to be honest,” he explained. “All my family and friends knew but I’ve not done anything in the public eye for a long time to make it valid for me to say it. The reaction’s been phenomenal though – really really positive.”
Kavana went on to explain that he came out to his bandmates over email “about three weeks” after getting together with 5th Story – whose other members are Adam Rickitt, Gareth Gates, Kenzie and Dane Bowers.
His bandmate Dane Bowers then chipped in with: “We all thought Adam was gay.”
“Adam was supposed to be the gay one!” Kavana agreed, before Kenzie added: “We all thought Adam was gay – Kav just went off the radar.”
Attitude‘s 20th birthday party took place last night (March 29) at The Grosvenor House Hotel in central London and featured exclusive performances from The Overtones and Holly Johnson, plus a DJ set from our first ever cover star, Boy George. Find out more about the night here.
