Adele’s new album will not be released this year, according to her record label.

XL Recordings has said in its annual finance report obtained by the New York Times that, contrary to rumours, there are currently “no plans” for the singer’s forthcoming third album to come out before the end of the year.

“There will not be a further new release by Adele during 2014 and consequently there will be a fall in XL’s turnover and profits,” reads the financial report.

Adele sparked speculation in May of this year that her third album will be titled 25 with a cryptic tweet.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that the singer is planning a surprise release for the album, following the success of Beyoncé’s unannounced album release in December 2013.

Adele released her second album 21 in 2011 and it went on to become a global phenomenon, selling over 30 million copies worldwide and spawning the smash hit singles Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You.
