Adore Delano: ‘The gay community has become too sensitive’
By Josh Haggis
Adore Delano has claimed that the gay community has become “too sensitive”.
Earlier this year, RuPaul’s Drag Race – which sees 14 drag queens compete for the title of ‘America’s Next Drag Superstar’ – axed the popular “you’ve got she-mail” phrase from future episodes, following complaints claiming the term was “transphobic”.
RuPaul quickly hit back at the show’s critics, saying defiantly that he “loves” the word “tranny”. Read his full comments here.
Asked by attitude.co.uk about the controversy, Drag Race season six finalist Delano said: “We’re growing to be so sensitive and anal about everything. We all grew up being called ‘tranny’. We all grew up being called ‘faggot’. We all have these negative words thrown at us. You are what you respond to.”
Proceeding to defend RuPaul, Delano continued: “When RuPaul was coming out you were considered a transvestite when you were doing drag, so they all kind of took the power of that word and used it themselves to fight the negative connotation. When you fight RuPaul, who is a Godly figure in our community, who are we really making the enemy here?”
