Advertorial: No.32 The Old Town, Clapham, London

By Matt Wells

Story 1

There’s a new bar in town… in The Old Town, Clapham to be precise – and it’s got high hopes of becoming a neighbourhood favourite. Not only does No 32 The Old Town have the holy grail of balmy British summer drinking sessions – a fine-looking roof terrace – but a lovingly designed interior that feels comfortable as well as covetable.

There’s also breakfast and brunch menus to wake up for, craft beers and cleverly concocted cocktails, sociable sharing plates, and a late licence until 1am on Friday and Saturday with DJs creating the perfect soundtrack to the weekend.

On the site of the former ‘The Frog and Forget-Me-Not in Clapham’, the interiors-loving owner and the designer have drawn inspiration from the local area, its people and its sense of fun to create a stylish yet relaxed backdrop that welcomes people in to make the space their own whatever time or day.

No 32 The Old Town will serve delightful drinks from morning coffee to nightcaps (and everything in between). The cocktail menu focuses on classic cocktails injected with No. 32 personality featuring spirit infusions, house-made syrups and sherbets. There’s a great selection to choose from, a cocktail to suit any time of day; including lighter and fresher brunch tipples, late afternoon easy-going drinks and ending the evening with more complex flavour concoctions.

Story 3

There will also be a focused menu of fresh, scratch-cooked, great value food. A range of small and sharing dishes serve as starters or sociable snacks (think crispy peppered squid or a hunk of cheese) that complement the well-chosen beer, wine and cocktail lists. Fresh marinated skewers include chunks of spicy lime and chilli salmon or honey and soy chicken served with artisan bread, and will be available as individual orders or in larger quantities to share.

Breakfast includes smashed feta and avocado served on rye, blueberry pancakes with maple
syrup and whipped crème fraîche and breakfast sourdough bruschetta with roast tomatoes, spinach, avocado, shaved bacon and breakfast mayo. Sundance juices are available for a fresh, fruity start to the day, as well as delicious Caravan coffee ground on-site or perhaps a mean bloody Mary for the less virtuous days.

A delicious brunch menu is served throughout the weekend and features favourite breakfast items as well as a selection from the all-day menu and a great roast served from 12 noon on Sundays with all the traditional accompaniments. A range of puds are available at any time of day, for a sweet late-morning treat or as the perfect end to a meal, including buttermilk and orange panna cotta with mixed berry coulis, spiced chocolate mousse with sugared raspberries or the classic Roulade No 32 with house made meringue, rhubarb and orange blossom cream.
