Alan Carr hit with anti-gay abuse after Radio 2 appearance
"I’ll come back when the 'Friends of Dorothy' takeover is done" said one listener

Alan Carr has been targeted with vile homophobic abuse after his first day filling in for Zoe Ball on Radio Two.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star provided cover on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show for three hours yesterday, with another four cover spots coming up while Zoe takes annual leave.
Despite ace music choices like The Four Tops’ ‘Loco in Acapulco’ and interviews with the likes of MasterChef‘s Gregg Wallace, the comic’s radio appearance apparently irked some sensitive listeners.
“Irritating and foppish”
“His irritating and foppish voice spouting vacuous and irrelevant drivel is enough to drive me to a commercial station in spite of the adverts,” said one listener, adding: “I’ll come back when the “Friends of Dorothy” takeover is done.”
Another said of the 44-year-old: “He is a negative gay stereotype, isn’t he? #AlanCarr” while a third chimed in: “I’m not sure if Alan Carr is even actually gay, More of a ‘persona’ I think….”
Carr was swiftly defended by fans, one of whom said: “The way 95% of the people tweeting about Alan Carr on Radio 2 are quite obviously coming from a place of homophobia.”
Said a second: “Not even listening to Radio 2 but I know Alan Carr is funny as f**k and people are just projecting a dislike for him being camp.”
A third opined: “You need a regular spot on radio two ! So lovely listening to you and we need extra laughs at this time in our history. [sic]”
The abuse coincides with RPDR UK‘s Sister Sister speaking out about receiving death threats over her appearance on series two of the show.
