All Saints are officially back with a brand new single and album

A pop returns go, they don’t get much better than this: All Saints have announced the release of a brand new single and album, almost a decade after they parted ways for a second time.

The girl group, consisting Melanie Blatt, Shaznay Lewis and sisters Nicole Natalie Appleton, will release new track ‘One Strike’ February 26, followed by their fourth studio album Red Flag later in the spring.

All Saints racked up 12million record sales, five number one singles, two multi-platinum albums and two Brit awards between 1997 and 2001, before personal animosity led them split following an infamous argument over who would get to wear a combat jacket during a photoshoot.

The Pure Shores singers briefly reunited in 2006 for third album Studio 1, and scored a UK Top Three single with ‘Rock Steady’ before parting ways once again.

Comeback track ‘One Strike’ was apparently inspired by Nicole Appleton’s split from Oasis star Liam Gallagher, and writer Shaznay says the lyrics come from a “very real” place.

“Nic was going through a lot of things at that time. That was at the forefront of my mind because it was the heaviest thing going on,” she says.

Natalie adds: “The first few times I heard it in my car I couldn’t stop crying because I could hear so clearly what it was about.”

The girls say that touring the UK briefly back in 2014 inspired them to get back in the studio for a comeback proper.

“We didn’t force ourselves into this situation and it couldn’t have happened at a better time in all of our lives,” Natalie explains. “I just missed being with the girls. It makes us happy. Listen, if you can work with your favourite people, then why not? I have such a good time and I spend more time laughing and having fun than I do working.”

All Saints are set to release ‘Red Flag’ on April 8. You can re-live their classic 1998 UK chart-topper ‘Never Ever’ below:
