American Horror Story season eight release date announced

The highly anticipated season is set to be a crossover of Murder House and Coven

The release date of the highly anticipated eighth season of American Horror Story has been revealed.

Series creator Ryan Murphy sent fans into a frenzy on June 14 after revealing that season 8 of the horror anthology series is set to crossover with 2011’s Murder House and 2013’s Coven. 

Now, on the official Twitter feed for the series, the date for the upcoming crossover has been revealed to be September 12.

Along with a poster, they wrote: “Not long now. #AHSFX”

Murphy first teased the collision of worlds last year, but had indicated as recently as January that it would not happen until season 9 at the earliest.

While it’s not known which characters from Murder House and Coven may appear in season 8, actors Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, who appeared in both seasons, are known to be returning to the show this year.

Emma Roberts is set to reprise her role as Coven’s scene-stealing Madison Montgomery, the coke-addled Hollywood starlet and witch who tore through Miss Robichaux’s Academy like a telekinetic Regina George on steroids back in 2013.  

Kathy Bates and Cheyenne Jackson will also be returning to the highly anticipated season alongside Billy Eichner, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd and Adina Porter.

Dame Joan Collins is also set to join the new season and is reportedly starring as Peters grandmother in the series.

As the excitement grows, fans are continually speculating whether Jessica Lange – who was the scene stealer in both seasons – will be returning.

Lange was last seen in the hit anthology in the fourth season, Freak Show, and it would be a dream come true if she returns to the franchise.
