Andrew Rannells to replace Neil Patrick Harris in ‘Hedwig’
By Josh Haggis
Andrew Rannells is to replace Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway.
The Tony-nominated Girls actor will step into the title role on August 17 – for an extended eight-week run.
Rannells, also known for starring in short-lived gay-themed US sitcom The New Normal, previously played Hedwig in a 2011 production of the musical in Texas.
The show, a rock musical about a fictional band fronted by a trans singer from Germany, recently won four awards at this year’s Tonys, including Best Revival of a Musical and a Best Actor award for Neil Patrick Harris.
Harris has been playing the title role since the acclaimed production debuted on Broadway in March.
