Angela Bassett will not be returning for ‘American Horror Story: Apocalypse’
The actress played voodoo witch Marie Laveau in the third season of the anthology series 'Coven'

Angela Bassett has confirmed that she will not be returning as Marie Laveau in American Horror Story: Apocalypse.
Series creator Ryan Murphy sent fans into a frenzy after revealing that season 8 of the horror anthology series is set to crossover with 2011’s Murder House and 2013’s Coven.
While it’s not known which characters from Murder House and Coven may appear in season eight, actors Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, who appeared in both seasons, are known to be returning to the show this year.
However, Bassett – who played one of the best characters in Coven – sadly confirmed she won’t be returning to the new season due to scheduling conflicts with her other show 9-1-1.
During an interview in Paris, Bassett said: “No, I can not be in American Horror Story, because I’m 9-1-1 , I’m not available for the new season but I would have liked because it’s a great series that fans love.”
All we can hope is that this is a red herring and Bassett is throwing fans off guard ahead of the new season – which is slated for release this September.
We already know Emma Roberts is set to reprise her role as Coven’s scene-stealing Madison Montgomery, the coke-addled Hollywood starlet and witch who tore through Miss Robichaux’s Academy like a telekinetic Regina George on steroids back in 2013.
Kathy Bates and Cheyenne Jackson will also be returning to the highly anticipated season alongside Billy Eichner, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd and Adina Porter.
It’s also known that Dame Joan Collins will be joining the cast and this week Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Kyle Allen will also be starring as guest roles in the new series.
However, other fan favourites from both seasons – including Lily Rabe as Misty Day (Coven) and Nora Montgomery (Murder House), and Taissa Farmiga as Violet Harmon (Murder House) and Zoe Benson (Coven) – also have not been revealed to be joining the cast or not.
Of course, the scene-stealer in all the seasons up to 2015’s Hotel Jessica Lange has retired from the anthology for good but we can only hope she makes an appearance as the show has really missed her since she left in Freak Show (2014).
