Angela Lansbury nails Beauty and the Beast’s ‘Tale as Old as Time’ at 90
By Will Stroude
Dame Angela Lansbury took audiences on a moving trip down memory lane on Sunday (September 18) with a pitch perfect performance of a Disney classic.
The 90-year-old actress took to the stage at the 25th anniversary screening of 1991’s Beauty and the Beast at New York’s Alice Tully Hall, where she treated the crowd to a rendition of the film’s emotional epicentre, ‘Tale as Old as Time’.
Lansbury, who voiced Mrs Potts in the original film – a live action remake of which is set for release in 2017, starring Emma Watson and Luke Evans – drew a standing ovation from the enraptured audience, and drew laughs as she remembered to remind her character’s on-screen son Chip, a tea cup, to get off to the cupboard to bed.
