Anne Hathaway is heading to the small screen

Anne Hathaway will soon be coming to a television screen near you in a live adaptation of new US novel The Ambassador’s Wife, it has been announced.

The Academy Award-winning Les Misérables actress is following in the footsteps of A-list stars like Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson and Rachel McAdams by signing up for a limited television series, in which she will play the lead role.

According to the Daily Mail, Grey’s Anatomy and Ray Donovan producer Mark Gordon is leading the television version of Jennifer Steil’s newly-published novel, which chronicles the kidnapping of an American woman living in the Middle East and is loosely based on the author’s personal experiences being married to the British Ambassador to Yemen.

Hathaway is signed on to play the titular wife and will also serve as a producer.

Gordon said of the 32-year-old Devil Wears Prada star’s involvement: “The Ambassador’s Wife is an incredible story that pulls you in immediately and resonates with all of us based on the images and news headlines that are pervasive in our lives today.

“We are so fortunate to have Anne starring in this timely, gripping, and compassionate drama. She is in a league all her own and we cannot think of anyone who can better portray Steil’s complex heroine”.

No network is currently attached to the project, but you can bet given it’s new A-list pull it’ll only be a matter of time. Hathaway’s last serial television outing came a teenager Meghan Green 1999 Fox family drama series Get Real, beofre her big screen breathrough in 2001’s The Princess Diaries.

Hathaway will soon be back on the big screen opposite Robert De Niro in upcoming US comedy The Intern, which is set for release on September 25.
