Annie Lennox has announced details of her new album Nostalgia.

The singer has recorded covers of songs made famous in the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s by the likes of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Jo Stafford and Louis Armstrong.

Lennox said she was “curious” about the possibility of recording blues songs, adding: “I thought, ‘I wonder what my voice would be like. Would these songs suit my voice?’ It was like a little challenge. I just sort of got to know them, became friends with them really and had a great deal of joy in the process.”

She teamed up with her long-time collaborator and co-producer, Mike Stevens, to record the songs in his studio in West London.

Annie Lennox will release Nostalgia on October 27 via Island Records in the UK and internationally, and by Blue Note Recordings in the US.
