Ansel Elgort has spoken out against critics of the LGBT community.
The Fault In Our Stars actor spoke of his dismay at the continuing battle for equality at the premiere of Broadway musical Finding Neverland.
Explaining his views, Elgort told GLAAD: All Access that he does not see “any reason why people shouldn’t be allowed to be who they want to be”.
He continued: “I almost find that now if you’re not accepting, it’s a big problem… I really hope in my heart that the world can accept, like truly and deeply from the core, so there can be a true change in the way the world is.
“I mean, everyone’s allowed to have their own opinion, but there really shouldn’t be people who don’t accept everyone. I think that’s really stupid.”
Elgort denied that he was gay last year, stating that he would never “hide it” if he was. He told fans on Twitter: “Being gay or straight isn’t bad or good it just IS. U are who you are. Be true to yourself.”
