Has your mobile phone become the third person in your relationship?
Britain has become a nation of mobile-phone addicts, so obsessed with our phones it’s costing our love lives as well as a hefty monthly bill. A survey commissioned by MusicMagpie discovered that nearly HALF of couples bicker about the amount of time spent on their mobile phones, with one in 10 admitting that they frequently argue about it.
A shocking 84% admitted that they wouldn’t leave their phones at home when on a romantic night out, with one in 20 saying it was in case they got bored! Hardly a fairy tale romance!
If you think this may be you and that you may well be putting your love life in jeopardy, we have a quiz that will test just how addicted you are, and a step by step guide on how to wean yourself off that mobile phone – click here to take the quiz now.
Psychotherapist Toni Mackenzie has also come up with some instant tips for weaning yourself off your Smartphone:
- Gradually leave bigger gaps between checking your messages or social media posts. Build up to only checking two or three times a day. You can let friends/work colleagues know in advance and in an emergency they can call you.
- Think of ways to fill your time without using your phone. Read a book or listen to music when you’re travelling on public transport or waiting around. You could also learn a new skill or do some exercise.
- In social situations, only use your phone if you’re sharing something with the people you’re with – looking up information or posting a social media post that includes your friends.
- Don’t check your phone when you’re on a date, or spending one to one time with someone. Focus on whoever you are with and give them your full attention.
- Be fully present and start to appreciate being in the ‘here and now’. Take notice of what’s going on around you.
