‘Bake Off’ receives complaints over Mel and Sue innuendos
By Sam Rigby
has received complaints over “smutty remarks” made by presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.
The baking series is well known for featuring innuendo, but some viewers have argued that it spoils “an otherwise delightful show”.
BBC complaints show Points of View shared a number of complaints about Mel and Sue’s remarks during this week’s show.
One complaint read: “Tired of the constant smutty remarks of the two hosts, Sue Perkins (mostly) and Mel Giedroyc (sometimes), please ask them to stop spoiling an otherwise delightful show.”
Another said: “They get smuttier and smuttier, and it’s totally unnecessary. Mary Berry looked quite embarrassed on the first programme of this series and so were we as a family.”
Perkins responded to the complaints on Twitter, posting:
Mel/Sue complaints on POV don’t bother me, it’s the European Parliament’s ruling on our ‘Dutch’ accents I’m dreading….
