star Mary Berry has revealed that she was recently asked to pose for a selfie with two young men who are fans of the show.

Berry, who has been a judge on the BBC’s hit cookery contest since it began in 2010,  believes the show is so popular because “viewers can relate to it”.

“Just yesterday I was walking down the street and two young men came out of the pub and asked if they could have a photo with me,” Berry told the Radio Times.

“They were only around 20, but genuine Bake Off fans. I love that. I think the show brings families of all generations together on the sofa.”

Meanwhile, during an appearance on The Jonathon Ross Show in March, Sue Perkins revealed that she and fellow Bake Off presenter Mel Giedroyc have turned Berry into a fan of The Jeremy Kyle Show.

Perkins said: “Mary loves Jeremy Kyle. We’ve got her into Jeremy Kyle. Mary says, ‘This is extraordinary. Absolutely marvellous’.”

“Then after a while you go, ‘It is real’. [and Mary replies,] ‘Is it really?'”

The Great British Bake Off will return later this year, moving across to BBC One from BBC Two for the new series.
