Band Aid 30 is on course to hit number one this weekend following massive sales.

Sir Bob Geldof’s latest release of Do They Know It’s Christmas? has shifted over 252,000 copies in its first 48 hours on sale, becoming the fastest-selling single of 2014 by a huge margin.

One Direction, Sam Smith, Rita Ora, Ed Sheeran and Jessie Ware are among the high profile names involved with the fundraising effort, which was unveiled by Geldof on The X Factor on Sunday (November 16).

2004’s Band Aid 20 – featuring the likes of Will Young and Jamelia – sold a total of 297,000 in its full first week on sale.

Clean Bandit’s Real Love, featuring Jess Glynne, is currently at number two, with Attitude cover star Olly Murs’s new single Wrapped Up set to enter the charts at three.

The current Top 5 is completed by Gareth Malone’s All Star Choir’s Children in Need version of Wake Me Up and David Guetta’s Dangerous, which are at four and five respectively.

Over on the UK Albums Chart, One Direction are on course to score their third number one album with Four, which is currently outselling the rest of the Top 5 put together.

Meanwhile, Bette Midler looks set to get her first UK Top 10 album since 1990’s Some People’s Lives. Her new record, It’s The Girls!, currently sits at number nine.
