BBC One’s Wedding Day Winners to feature a gay couple

BBC One is about to have its first gay wedding. 

The broadcaster’s hit show Wedding Day Winners will feature a same-sex couple in its latest episode that will air on Saturday (January 13). 

The reality series, presented by breakfast television legend Lorraine Kelly and comic Rob Beckett, sees two happy couples and their friends and family go head to head in order to win prizes, a dream honeymoon, and most importantly the most extraordinary wedding ceremony ever which will be broadcast to the nation.

While both couple’s have their weddings arranged by the show, animal lovers Tom, 30, and Chris, 27, who have been together for 8 years, are hoping to be the lucky couple to have their ceremony broadcast to viewers at home. 

Speaking about being a part of the series, Christian said: “It’s amazing being an LGBT couple, we are very lucky to live in a society where most people are excepting and we feel safe to be who we are. With equal marriage rights we feel we have been given an opportunity to celebrate our love just like other more traditional couples and why not show our love with the world on the show.

“Myself and Tom have always felt something special for each other from the moment we met, so when we got together falling in love was very easy and we have never stopped falling in love.”

The couple revealed that being a part of the show was “a once in a lifetime experience”. 

“Being on the show was a once in a lifetime experience, non-stop fun from the moment we entered our names. We were always going to do something different for our Wedding and we are so happy we got the opportunity to share such an amazing, interesting day packed full of fun for all our friends and family.”

“We learnt that we are all very competitive, our friends and family pulled out all the stops for one secret challenge. They must have worked there buts off so I’m incredibly proud of all involved,” he added.

Wedding Day Winner’s will air Saturday on BBC One at 7:25pm.
