Ben Platt has publicly come out as gay and dropped the video for his new single ‘Ease My Mind’ starring Charlie Carver.
Although the Pitch Perfect and Dear Evan Hansen star has been out to his family and anyone is his life since the age of 12 but has never publicly said he was gay.
However, the singer released the video for his latest single which features Teen Wolf star Carver as his love interest and while speaking to People Magazine, Platt said he has “never hidden” or hasn’t “been ashamed” of his sexuality.
He said: “It was just incredibly natural to want to represent that as the story of the song when we’re expressing it visually.
“When we were conceptualizing this sort of loose narrative that we wanted to connect through the videos, there was not really any moment where we had to decide it should be about me and a man as opposed to anything else because it was just, ‘We’re going to represent what this was inspired by,’ which was this man that I was in love with. So it was really a no-brainer.
“I’ve been out since I was 12 years old to my family and anyone in my life. I’ve never sort of hidden that or been ashamed by it. It’s just part of me.”
‘Ease My Mind’ is the second single to be released from his upcoming album after releasing ‘Bad Habit’ which also features Carver in the video.
His first solo album, ‘Sing To Me Instead’, is set to be released this March.
