Big Brother star Rebekah Shelton feared she was dead after death hoax
The former reality star revealed she woke up to messages calling her an 'angel'
Transgender Big Brother star Rebekah Shelton revealed she feared she was dead after Twitter hackers claimed she had died.
The former reality star was accused of faking her own death after a tweet claiming she had “died unexpectedly” was posted in January. Several hours later, Shelton shared a video denying that she had died and blamed hackers for the hoax.
Shelton opened up about the experience on The Jeremy Kyle Show yesterday (March 7) and revealed that she momentarily believed she had died.
She said: “I woke up to many messages on my phone from people saying I was an angel, saying ‘rest in peace’ because now your problems have finished and things like that.
“And for a second I thought ‘Am I dead?’ It’s funny now but’s not good emotionally, it’s very damaging emotionally.”
Shelton then defended herself when quizzed over accusations that she had faked her death for fame.
She said: “I don’t want to be arrogant but who are the people saying I was faking this news? You know who? A couple of losers. You know where they are now? I don’t know either.”
The 32-year-old, who appeared on UK reality TV show Big Brother in 2009 before transitioning, also opened up about her transition and revealed she had spent a month in hospital alone.
