Billie Eilish shares her fears for the future in a post-pandemic world
The 'bad guy' singer strikes a chord as she reflects on the coronavirus crisis.
Billie Eilish famously growled that she was a bad guy in her mega-hit of the same name – and now she is turning her attention to the planet’s common foe: coronavirus.
Opening up about her fears for the future in a post-pandemic world, the 18-year-old Grammy Award winner worries that people won’t have learned any lessons from their time in lockdown.
“If I’m being real, I feel like as soon as we can see people again and go out, we’re going to be so happy and grateful, and in about three days we’re all going to take it for granted,” she begins.

“That’s the way people work, you know, it’s the way humans are made, you miss something so bad once you don’t have it,” Billie continues. “And then when it comes back, [you] kind of fall right back into that place of, ‘This will never be away again.’”
However, the ‘when the party’s over’ singer is keen to be proven wrong when things eventually return to “normal” (whatever that looks like).
“Hopefully… people keep it in their minds,” she urges. “I’m going to try my hardest, I don’t know if I’ll be able to because, obviously, I’m human like everybody else, but I think I’ll try my hardest to be like so grateful to be around people and socialising again. But it’s crazy, I hope we all just take it in more.”
In a wide-ranging interview with Telekom Electronic Beats, the American chart-topper says that she has adapted to life in quarantine rather nicely.
“It sounds so introverted and like lonerish, but I’ve been really enjoying being alone,” she admits.
“I feel like everybody on the internet has been talking about like, they’ve been on FaceTime all day long with their friends, and I kind of have this feeling of like, I love my friends, I can’t wait to see them, I do miss them a lot, but at the same time, I don’t know, I’m good.”
“I haven’t had this time off since I was, like, 12,” she exclaims.
Billie – who became a meme dream following her reaction to winning five Grammy trophies in January – has been keeping busy after recently fostering two puppies with very, ahem, novel names.
“It’s actually been great, it’s like when else am I going to have time to do that,” she gushes. “They are named after characters from To Kill a Mockingbird, one is Jim and the other one is Miss Mardy.”

Billie has joined the line-up for the star-studded benefit concert One World: Together At Home, curated by Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga.
The show, which will also feature performances from the likes of Sir Paul McCartney and Lizzo, streams live on 18 April, followed by an adapted version that’ll air on the BBC the next day.
