Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane are falling in love (possibly) in the new trailer for the upcoming gay rom-com, Bros.
The latest trailer for Hollywood’s first studio-produced gay-centric rom-com sees the two characters (Bobby and Aaron) meet and figure out what kind of relationship they want to have.
“What are you into? One of these ripped idiots with no opinions?” asks Bobby of Aaron. “No, I like someone who’s physically very frail and won’t stop talking, Aaron replies flirtatiously.
Bobby seems on a mission to prove to Aaron that they are not each other’s types. One scene set in Central Park, New York sees the two discussing men on a picnic blanket.
“I need you to be honest with me. You like these bro-y meat head idiots,” Bobby tells Aaron pointing to a group of stereotypically masc men scrapping.
Semi-jovially Bobby starts on Aaron to see if he likes it and the resulting scuffle quickly turns into a make-out sesh.
Later on, Aaron tells Bobby in bed that he likes to “keep things chill,” which Bobby says he can be.
The trailer also indicates that the film will highlight the ways queer people oppress one another.
Bowen Yang’s character at one point telling both Bobby and Aaron that they can’t come to a Pride pool party because they’re “too old”.
Bros was co-written by Eichner (along with the film’s director Nick Stoller) making him the first openly gay man to write and star in a major Hollywood movie.
Speaking to Attitude before the release of the film’s first trailer in May Billy said of only now getting a studio-produced gay rom-com: “I’m surprised but I’m not surprised because Hollywood has often been such a hypocritical and LGBTQ phobic place. But I’m happy that we’re here now.
“And it is a really big sign of progress that the same studio releasing Jurassic World and the Fast and the Furious movies and all these huge global franchises are releasing this very R-rated gay rom-com with as much enthusiasm and passion as they released those movies. That’s a really big step.”
Bros is set for release on 28 October in the UK.
The Attitude July/August issue is out now.
