Billy Porter tells Kevin Hart ‘f**k you’ after his homophobic tweets resurfaced.
Shortly after Hart was announced to be hosting the upcoming Academy Awards, the comedian faced backlash after a series of homophobic tweets were resurfaced online and despite stepping down from hosting responsibilities, Hart has yet to apologise.
In an Instagram video, Hart said: “I just got a call from the Academy and that call basically said, ‘Kevin, apologise for your tweets of old or we’re going to have to move on and find another host’.
“I passed. The reason I passed is because I’ve addressed this several times.
“This is not the first time this has come up. Regardless, to the Academy, I’m thankful for the opportunity, if it goes away, no harm, no foul.
“I’m not going to continue to go back and tap into the days of old when I’ve moved on and I’m in a completely different place in my life.”
Now, Porter – who is openly gay and starred in Ryan Murphy’s hit show Pose – has slammed Hart and comic D.L Hughley who defended the comedian’s comments.
Speaking to Consequence of Sound, Porter said: “I say to Kevin Hart, and I say to D.L. Hughley, I say to those people who think that they don’t need to apologize for shit and dig their heels in their toxic masculinity: But you want your rights!
“You want people to stop shooting your children in the back? But yet still, you turn around and oppress other people the same way you’re being oppressed. Fuck that. Fuck you. We’re done.
“That crosses a line, because that allows your fans to think that [you can] hit somebody because you don’t like them.
“You don’t like their sexuality, so I can bash you in the head. We’re not doing that anymore. And that is what Pose challenges.”
