Set your alarms! BBC Radio 1 is getting a drag makeover after announcing that RuPaul’s Drag Race UK royalty Bimini Bon Boulash, Tayce, Lawrence Chaney, and British drag legend Jodie Harsh will be hosting their very own shows for the first-ever Radio 1 Drag Day.
Drag Day will take place on Saturday 21 August with the queens taking part and showcasing the very best of the UK drag scene.
Help won’t be too far away for the queens as Radio 1 DJs Arielle Free, Clara Amfo, Dean McCullough, and Charlie Hedges will be around tokeep the queens on the straight and narrow (well, not straight, but you get us).
Throughout the day there will be special mixes and surprise guests leading up to the ultimate Radio 1 Dance Anthems show, to get listeners and fans party ready.
“Get your heels and your wigs at the ready!”
According to the BBC, the day will start at 07:00 am with Tayce and Clara Amfo taking us through to 10.30 when Lawrence Chaney and Arielle Free will take over. After 13:00 pm Bimini will take to the mic with Dean McCullough and from 16:00 to 19:00 Jodie Harsh and Charlie Hedges will take control for Radio 1’s Dance Anthems.
Bimini Bon Boulash says she used to listen to the station every day growing up: “I would be listening to Grimmy and Fearne and saying to myself one day I would be hosting a show! Absolute dream come true and I can’t wait to get in that studio and have a laugh with Dean! You’re gonna have to drag me out of there!”
Adding to that Newport’s very own Tayce says: “I am so excited to be getting the nation up and their days started. I can’t wait to work with Clara and bring some Tayce antics to Radio 1.”
Tayce has also tweeted the announcement saying “wakey wakey” with the fried egg and bacon emojis. As far as Saturday mornings go, it’s a pretty good start to the day in our books.

The winner of the second series of Drag Race UK, Lawrence Chaney, says: “I can’t wait to join my fellow Scot Arielle to fulfil a childhood dream of mine as a wee girl from Helensburgh to host a show on national Radio 1.”
Jodie Harsh says: “I am beyond excited to host a major dance party on Radio 1 with Charlie Hedges, rounding up such an incredible day of queens on the king of radio stations. I promise it will be the ultimate drag dance extravaganza. Get your heels and your wigs at the ready!”
Harsh’s co-host, Charlie Hedges, added we can all expect energy, big tunes and a day rave we won’t forget.
