Boy George talks The Voice and heading back on tour with Culture Club

By Attitude Magazine

In a new interview with FAULT, singer Boy George talks about his decision to join The Voice, and confesses that his only reservation was how involved he would be with the people that he chose to mentor on the BBC series.

“To my surprise, it is very interactive. You can get as involved as you want to”, he says.

The 54-year-old Culture Club star also explains his view on the gender-playful musical landscape of the 70s and 80s.

“I think most things are a reaction against society. The ‘70s were really grey: there were lots of strikes, lots of poverty, lots of things to react against. It was a bit of colour against all the misery that was happening in the ‘70s”.

George also reveals that he’s been enjoying the work of French group Christine and the Queen – and still has a soft-spot for a gay favourite from his ‘8os hey-day.

“The music they make is really beautiful. It’s in French though, so it’s a bit difficult to understand, but you don’t really need to. I’ve also been getting back into Kate Bush: recently I came home, laid on the floor and listened to Hounds of Love in it’s entirety, and it was wonderful”.

Discussing his future, he also confirms that Culture Club will be touring around the world this summer following the release of their sixth studio album, Tribes.

“I’m also doing stuff on my own”, he adds. “I’ve got a tour with Cyndi Lauper in about a month on the East Coast of America”.

You can read the full interview in the new issue of FAULT, out May 10 and available to pre-order now.
