US network Lifetime will air a film based on the life of the late Brittany Murphy next month (September).

Murphy died in 2009 at the age of 32. The cause of her death was ruled to be pneumonia and anaemia, but doubts surfaced when her husband, Simon Monjack, died five months later under similar circumstances.

The Brittany Murphy Story will focus on her rise to fame while also confronting her father’s theory that his daughter’s death was not accidental, reports Variety.

Murphy shot to fame with her role opposite Alicia Silverstone in the iconic 1995 teen flick Clueless, and went on to forge a promising career as an actress with appearances in films including Just Married, 8 Mile, Sin City and Don’t Say A Word. Her final film, Something Wicked, was released in April of this year.

Meanwhile, Lifetime is currently filming a biopic of the late Whitney Houston which is set to air next year – click here for more details.

The Brittany Murphy Story will premiere on September 6 on Lifetime. There is no word on a UK air date yet.
