Broadway stars come together for moving Orlando tribute song
Some of Broadway’s biggest stars have come together to create a cover of What the World Needs Now is Love in honour of the 49 people who tragically lost their lives in last week’s shooting at Pulse club in Orlando, Florida.
Stars including Sara Bareilles, Kristen Bell, Whoopi Goldberg, Gloria Estefan, Idina Menzel, Jane Krakowski, Rosie O’Donnell, and Sarah Jessica Parker all gathered in New York last week to record the Hal David and Burt Bacharach song, which has been released on iTunes to benefit the LGBT Center of Orlando.
The video starts by the stars saying: “All of us in the Broadway community are deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy that occurred in Orlando in the early morning hours of June 12th.
“We send our love and support and thoughts and prayers to everyone impacted by this act of violence and hate. This terrible cycle of violence and intolerance must end.
“We want to put out as much love into the world as we can, because only love can conquer hate. Love must prevail.”
100% of the proceeds from the song will go to the LGBT Centre of Central Florida.
The song is available to download on iTunes now.
