World-famous gay event The White Party has announced that Carmen Electra will be its Queen this year.

The annual bash in Palm Springs, California – which is celebrating its 25th birthday this year – will run from next Friday, April 25, until the following Monday, April 28.

Explaining why model/actress/singer Electra has been crowned Queen, White Party founder Jeffrey Sanker said: “Carmen has been a really close friend and also a great advocate for the gay community and a great supporter of White Party for many, many years. She is just the defining person who is there for our community, for White Party.”

He continued: “When we were marching for gay rights for equality in marriage, she was there. She’s just willing to throw herself, her name and her hat into the ring. She’s willing to help out whenever help is needed and I think that’s a very deserving person.”

Discussing the honour in an interview with The Desert Sun, Electra said: “It’s just the sweetest thing that I could ever hear and I’m very honoured to receive the award this year.”

In addition to Electra, The White Party will give out Icon awards to several other supporters of the event and the LGBT community generally, including Cher, Sir Elton John and David Furnish, Andy Cohen and Kathy Griffin.
