star Kenneth Williams has been honoured with a blue plaque at his former home in central London.
His Carry On co-star Barbara Windsor has unveiled the plaque at the block in Farley Court, Marylebone where Williams lived for seven years in the 1960s.
The plaque was unveiled earlier today (February 22) on what would have been the late comic actor’s 88th birthday.
Windsor told reporters including the BBC that she is “absolutely chuffed that English Heritage is celebrating him with a blue plaque”, describing the late comic as “a one-off, a true original”.
English Heritage’s blue plaque historian Howard Spencer added: “Kenneth Williams was a unique comic talent, who as both an actor and a storyteller won the nation’s affections. That legacy is now recognised by one of our blue plaques in London, the city in which he lived all his life.”
Williams, who died from a barbiturate overdose in 1988, was best known for his roles in 26 Carry On films between 1958 and 1978 as well as TV and radio appearances on shows including Just A Minute and Round The Horne.
