A new Céline Dion movie musical has been slated for release in 2020, featuring some of the legendary singer’s biggest hits.
The Power of Love is set into production next month after Dion authorised the use of her music in the film, Variety reports.
French actress Valérie Lemercier is set to direct and star in the picture, which will chart Dion’s modest early life in 1960s Quebec through her teenage rise to global superstardom to her relationship with her late manager and husband, René Angélil.
Producers have stressed that the film will not be an official ‘biopic’ but rather a fictionalised ‘homage’ to the Dion’s life.

Featuring Céline Dion hits including ‘All by Myself’, ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and ‘I’m Alive’, The Power of Love is the latest in a string of big name movie musicials including Elton John biopic Rocketman and the Freddie Mercury-inspired Bohemian Rhapsody (more on that ‘inspired’ point here).
Lemercier said she had been inspired by the relationship between Dion and her mother, Thérèse, and Angélil, who died in January 2016 at the age of 73 after suffering a heart attack while battling terminal cancer.
“I discovered the strength of their love story and their great humor, and I better understood how the alchemy of their three individual ambitions made an unwanted, little girl the greatest star on the planet,” she said.
The news comes following the announcement of Dion’s only planned European performance of 2019 at London’s Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park festival on Friday July 5th.
The Power of Love is slated for a December 2020 release.
