Cheryl on course to break Geri's UK Number Ones record

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is on course to score her fifth UK Number One single with I Don’t Care.

The pop banger has sold over 49,000 copies so far this week to claim the top spot in the midweek update from the Official Charts Company – and should it hold on until Sunday (November 10), Cheryl will become the first British female solo artist to score five Number One singles, breaking a record she currently shares with former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora.

I Don’t Care is the second single to be lifted from the 31-year-old’s upcoming fourth studio album Only Human after Tinie Tempah collaboration Crazy Stupid Love, which also hit the top spot earlier this year (July).

Cheryl’s other three Number Ones came with 2009’s Fight for This Love, 2010’s Promise This and 2012’s Call My Name.

Last week’s chart-topper, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, currently sits at Number Two in the midweek update, while Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass is at Number Three.

Meanwhile, John Legend’s All Of Me – which was released way back in January – has shot up 22 places to Number Four following the soul singer’s performance on The X Factor last Sunday (November 2).

Over on the UK’s Official Albums Chart, Calvin Harris is currently battling for the top spot with fourth studio album Motion, which is currently just 1,000 copies ahead of Ed Sheeran’s X. Last week’s chart-topper, Taylor Swift’s 1989, is at Number Three.
