Cheryl to headline Birmingham Pride 2020

We're READY. (You said that with some conviction).

By Will Stroude

It’s time to fight, fight, fight for gay rights – because Cheryl is set to headline Birmingham Pride 2020.

The ‘Fight for This Love’ singer, 36, will take to main stage of Birmingham Pride on Saturday 23 May, a day before fellow headliner Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland plays an eagerly anticipated show to close the weekend.

Confirming the news on Twitter on Tesday (25 February), Cheryl wrote: “Can not wait to see you all at @BirminghamPride on Saturday the 23rd of May” [sic].

Former Girls Aloud star Cheryl, who appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK last year and is currently appearing on the judging panel of BBC One’s The Greatest Dancer, is sure to deliver a hit-filled set in Brum come May.

Meanwhile, ‘Work’ singer Rowland will be joined on Sunday’s main stage line-up by RuPaul’s Drag Race star and recent Attitude Award winner Peppermint, as well ’90s Eurodance icons The Vengaboys.

This year’s Birmingham Pride will see the weekend’s entertainment events – including the Main Stage, Cabaret Stage, Dance Arena and funfair, all relocated to a new site in Smithfield, the former home of Birmingham Wholesale Market.

The new site is next to the city’s gay village, which will continue to host the Birmingham Pride Street Party and Future Stage.

Birmingham Pride festival director Lawrence Barton, said: “While the gay village will remain at the heart of the event as an integral part of the celebrations, the new festival site on the former Birmingham Wholesale Market gives us the opportunity to make Birmingham Pride 2020 the biggest and best yet.”

Festival tickets for Birmingham Pride, which this year takes place on 23-24 May are one sale now here.
