Arrested Development
will be returning for a fifth season, actor Will Arnett has confirmed.
The sitcom debuted on US network Fox in 2003, and earned critical acclaim and a cult fanbase, but was cancelled after just three seasons due to low ratings. Seven years later, in 2013, Netflix revived the show for a fourth season – which featured several guest appearances by a copy of Attitude magazine.
Season four performed well for the streaming service, but the reception from fans and TV critics was somewhat mixed, with many complaining that the show’s much-loved characters, played by the likes of Arnett, Jason Bateman, Portia de Ross and Michael Cera, didn’t share enough screen time together.
Speaking during an appearance on US morning show Today yesterday (August 7), Arnett confirmed speculation that the comedy will be returning for a fifth season.
“We are going to do more Arrested Development,” said the actor. “Netflix kind of let the cat out of the bag on that one. It’s something we all want to do, so we’re excited.”
Netflix has yet to announce the launch date for the new series, however.
