Coronation Street set for first gay wedding amid Paul, Todd and Billy love triangle

Coronation Street will air its first gay wedding in its 60-year history this year, it has been reported.

The ITV soap will reach the milestone following a dramatic love triangle storyline between Paul Foreman, Todd Grimshaw and Billy Mayhew.

The story involves man of the cloth Billy, played by Daniel Brocklebank, choosing between current partner Paul, played by Peter Ash, and his ex Todd, played by Gareth Pierce, who took over the role last year.

According to The Mirror, Billy will be marrying one of them… although which of the men specifically remains to be seen.

“It would be lovely, as a gay man myself, to be part of the first gay wedding”

Teasing the storyline, Daniel told the publication: “From my perspective, I would love to be part of Corrie’s first male gay wedding.

“None of the others have followed through – we’ve only attempted three. Two were lesbian weddings and neither happened – the roof collapsed on one and there was a jilting at the other.

“It would be lovely, as a gay man myself, to be part of the first gay wedding on Corrie that actually happens! That would be amazing.”

The star added: “He would want to do it in a church so if there was anything to stop him, it would be that. It would have to be a pretty special man to make him get married in a registry office.”
