Coronation Street’s Barbara Knox arrested for ‘drink-driving’

‘s Barbara Knox has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
The actress – who has played Rita on the ITV soap since 1964 – is said to have been arrested alongside her daughter, The Sun reports.
Knox was held by police in Cheshire and has now been bailed pending further enquires, while her daughter Maxine Ashcroft will appear in court after reportedly being charged.
The 80-year-old actress went down to the police station to ask after her daughter, following her arrest earlier in the day, but was thought to have driven to the station while under the influence herself.
A Cheshire police spokesperson said: “Police stopped a car in Hollow Lane in Knutsford. A 56-year-old woman from Gloucestershire was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
“An 80-year-old woman from Knutsford later arrived at Knutsford Police Station and was also arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and bailed.”
Knox first appeared in Coronation Street in 1964, before returning as a full-time cast member in 1972.
