Courtney Act has announced her bid to represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race star and former Celebrity Big Brother winner will compete to represent have native country at next year’s show in Tel Aviv with characteristcally uplifting new single ‘Fight For Love’.
Courtney, the drag alter ego of performer Shane Jarek, will fight to become the Australian entry during the country’s national selection TV show Eurovision – Australia Decides next February.
We certainly won’t be betting against the host of E!’s LGBT dating series The Bi Life: Jarek previously made the top 16 of the first series of Australian Idol in 2003.
An empowering anthem that twins a monster dance chorus with a message of unity and inclusion, ‘Fight For Love’ certainly sounds like perfect Eurovision fodder.
In a statement, Courtney said: “A sweet 16 years after Australian Idol, I have the chance to show Australia how I have grown as an artist and performer and I am so excited!
“To compete to represent Oz in Eurovision is second only to being on that stage in Tel Aviv and singing my lungs out for my country.
“‘Fight For Love’ is a dancefloor banger all about coming together and fighting for the things we believe in.
“I think it’s so important to think about the basic human rights of others and to use our collective voices, minds and bodies to lift those people up and bring about change.”
Eurovision – Australia Decides will air Down Under on SBS on Saturday 9 February 2019.
