Cyndi Lauper is having a crack at Christmas #1 with new festive track
By Will Stroude
As we’d just got over the surprise of Kylie Minogue reuniting with Stock Aitken Waterman for a last minute bid for Christmas Number One, another pop legend has gotten in on the festive action at the eleventh hour: the one and only Cyndi Lauper.
The 62-year-old is gearing up to release brand new country-infused festive number ‘Hard Candy Christmas’, originally from the Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds movie The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas – and the bookies are getting behind it as an outside contender for No. 1, with odds of 25-1 to make the top spot.
A spokesperson for William Hill, said: “This year’s race to No.1 is the most open we have seen for a decade. The X-Factor, Star Wars and the NHS Choir are all up there but Cyndi Lauper is a 50-million selling megastar so we have to count her as a genuine contender.”
‘Hard Candy Christmas’ is out this Friday (December 11) – and you can give it a whirl below.
The single will be followed by Cyndi’s brand new album, Detour, which will cover country music classics from the 1950’s and ‘60’s and is set for release in 2016.
We caught up with Cyndi earlier this year, where the ’80s icon talked LGBT rights, equal marriage and writing the music and lyrics for the London stage adaptation of Kinky Boots – click here to read it our interview in full.
