Danny Dyer drags up for stunning new music video about self-acceptance
By Ben Kelly
Danny Dyer has dragged up for his starring role in the stunning new music video from Lucy Rose.
The video for the singer-songwriter’s new single ‘Nebraska’ follows the Eastenders‘ hard man as he cries in his car, enters a drag bar, and eventually sums up the courage to take to the stage in full drag for a cathartic performance.
Speaking to the Independent, Dyer says: “I was honoured to be asked by the maestro that is Lucy Rose to be part of her video. When I got the treatment through I was overwhelmed. I think it’s such a moving piece of work.”
He adds: “I’m beyond proud to be part of it, I’ve always believed that people should be who they wanna be, regardless of race or gender. Freedom of expression is so important – I really hope that this video gets the recognition it deserves.”
Rose also explained what she wanted to achieve from Dyer’s cameo in her video.
“We wanted to make some beautiful and emotive,” she said, “but also tell a story that life can be tough and it doesn’t always go to plan and we all need our own form of escapism. This video to me isn’t about Danny being a drag queen but a freedom of expression and a form of escapism.”
‘Nebraska’ is the latest cut from Rose’s second album Work It Out. Watch the video – which also features a cameo from gay singer-songwriter Josef Salvat – below:
